베른하르트 슈미트

베른하르트 슈미트(Bernhard Woldemar Schmidt, 1879년 3월 11일 ~ 1935년 12월 1일)는 발트 독일인 안경사이다. 1930년, 구면수차 코마(coma), 난시의 광학 오류를 정정한 슈미트 망원경을 발명하였으며, 이를 통해 천문학 연구를 위한 짧은 노출의 매우 큰 광각 반사 카메라를 최초로 제조할 수 있었다.

생애

슈미트는 Carl Constantin과 Marie Helene Christine Schmidt의 아들로 태어났다. 러시아 제국에 속했던 예스틀랸디야 현 탈린 해안에서 떨어진 Nargen(Naissaar)섬에서 태어나 자랐다. 이 지역에서 주로 사용된 언어는 스웨덴어나 에스토니아어였으나 슈미트가는 독일어를 사용했다. 베른하르트는 6명의 자식(3명의 소년, 3명의 소녀) 가운데 가장 나이가 많았다.
