붉은꼬리메기과(Pimelodidae)는 메기목에 속하는 조기어류과의 하나이다.^[1] 붉은꼬리메기과의 모든 종은 남아메리카에서 발견된다.^[2] 남아메리카와 파나마 북부 지역부터 멕시코 남단까지 분포한다.^[3] 붉은꼬리메기 등을 포함하고 있다.
