English translation of local bot policy. This is a mere translation, and if the meaning differs in this translation and the Korean version, Korean one governs.

Requirement for all bots 편집

  • All bots must adhere to the Standard Bot Policy.[1]
  • All bots must adhere to the Korean Wikipedia Policies and Guidelines. In other words, bot operator must be familiar with the Korean Wikipedia's Policy and Guidelines.
    • Some bot framework might offer functionality that might be incompatible with the Korean Wikipedia Policy and Guidelines, and you MUST NOT implement it unmodified.
    • If your bot is editing in violation of local Policy and Guidelines, bot may be blocked pursuant to the Blocking Policy.
  • All bot operators must be able to explain the bots' purpose and functionality, and why the bot is needed.
  • To operate a bot, separate bot account must be created, and the account must contain "bot" or "봇" in their username. (Standard Bot Policy only mentions "bot", but Korean word for the 'bot', '봇', is also allowed.)
  • Bot operator is encouraged to state their operator using {{}} in their username. (Sockpuppetry Policy)
  • Bot should use edit summaries that signifies their edits were made by bots.
  • Quotes, citation, and other direct copy of the original text must remain as is unless there is consensus to change such things.
    • For example, Web Citation template has a quote variable, which is a direct quotation of external text, so it must be left as is. (There might be quote without templates, by the way.)
  • It is not easy to monitor high-volume bot edits, so entering correct edit summaries are important. Therefore, you should only enter edit summary that is related to the edit itself.
    • For example, you should not say "Added category" when you did not add a category.
  • In pages about Unicode (for example, unicode lists), you should not sort or delete unicodes with bot framework functionalities.
  • If your bot edit makes a big effect in Korean Wikipedia, there must be a discussion before the bot task is run.
    • Reckless edits, controversial edits, careless edits must be avoided.
  • Bot must comply with {{Bots}}, {{Nobots}}.

Bots without bot flag 편집

  • Bots without bot flag must not make edits that generates unnecessary notifications to other users. Such edits must be conducted after the bot flag is granted.

Bot Request For Approval (BRFA) 편집

See also: WP:BRFA

It is allowed to run bot without bot flag in Korean Wikipedia, so you may run it without requesting bot flag. But it is possible to ask for bot flag if you think bot is stabilized.

  • Around the time you make the BRFA at least 100 test edits, to ensure bot is stable.
  • Clearly explain about the bots' function.
    • During the approval process, do not add extra functions or propose one. New features needs stabilization and unstable contribs hampers the approval.
  • Clearly explain how it helps Wikipedia.
    • For example, "This bot feature will help Wikipedia blah blah way. I haven't seen any bot doing these work."
    • Bureaucrats already know very well about the bot policy, so you don't need to claim bot policy constraints (ex. "I can run the bot in faster speed (compared to 60 seconds limit)") to make your case.
  • If your bot is approved on other Wikimedia project or you have other approved bot on Korean Wikipedia, you may get it approved faster.

Notes 편집

  • PS: Notes below are not part of the policy. They're written by the translator to help you understand about the stuff that might not be familiar to you.
  1. This means below rules are in addition to the Meta's Standard Bot Policy.
