Charondas

According to one legend, he choked to death on an unripe grape. Another says that he died of joy after hearing that his last play had been victorious. Zeno of Citium

c. 262 BC Zeno of Citium was a Greek philosopher from Citium (Κίτιον, Kition), Cyprus. As he was leaving the school he tripped and fell, breaking his toe. Striking the ground with his fist, he quoted the line from the Niobe:

According to Tacitus, the emperor appeared to have died and Caligula, who was at Tiberius' villa, was being congratulated on his succession to the empire, when news arrived that the emperor had revived and was recovering his faculties. Those who had moments before recognized Caligula as Augustus fled in fear of the emperor's wrath, while Macro, a prefect of the Praetorian Guard, took advantage of the chaos to have Tiberius smothered with his own bedclothes, definitively killing him.[49]

John A. Byrnes, Richard Leroy McKinley, and Richard C. Legg

During the testing of an experimental nuclear reactor design, in Arco, Idaho, two soldiers and a sailor were killed, but their deaths were not due to radiation poisoning. While trying to bring the reactor online, Army specialist John A. Byrnes was supposed to pull a control rod part way out by hand, but he pulled the rod further than intended. The reactor instantly went critical, which flash-boiled the water around the reactor. The force of the steam expanding lifted the entire reactor into the air about 2.77 미터 (9 ft 1 in), in what has been described as a water hammer-like effect. Many components were thrown out of the top, one of which impaled Navy electrician's mate Richard C. Legg, lifted him from a catwalk, and penetrated the ceiling, leaving him dangling. While the reactor was airborne the radioactive steam escaped, spraying the room. The steam was so hot that Byrnes instantly died by severe burns. Army specialist Richard Leroy McKinley suffered a head wound, from which he died later that day. The steam left the bodies of all three men radioactive, so they were buried in lead coffins. Officials feared that moving them would risk spreading contamination along public roadways, so a graveyard was established in the desert only 0.5 킬로미터 (0.31 mi) from the explosion. The graveyard is still monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency. The three remain the only human beings killed by a reactor explosion in the United States.[155][156][157][158][159]

The ceremony had to be ended by a court official, who asked the players to resume the match.[426][432]
Unnamed feral pigeon 29 May 2009 During a Twenty20 cricket match at Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds, England, between Yorkshire and Lancashire, Jacques Rudolph of Yorkshire fielded a ball close to the midwicket boundary and threw it to the wicket keeper. The return throw struck and killed a pigeon in flight across the ground.[433][434]
Alan the dachshund January 2013 Alan, Tatler magazine's "office dog", saw a man approaching the Vogue House, London revolving doors and walked after the man. As Alan tried to rush through the revolving doors his neck got caught in it, also getting the male worker stuck in the door. Two fire engines rushed to the scene, where they freed the man, but could not free Alan, who died at the scene.[435][436]

King of Navarre, by a vicious life in his youth, fell into a paralytic distemper in his old age, that took away the use of his limbs. His physicians directed him to be sewed up in a sheet that had for a considerable time been steeped in strong distilled spirits, to recover the natural heat of his benumbed joints. The surgeon having sewed him up very close, and wanting a knife to cut off the thread, made use of a candle that was at hand to burn it off; but the flame from the thread reaching the sheet, the spirits wherewith it was wet immediately taking fire, burnt so vehemently, that no endeavours could extinguish the flame. Thus the miserable King lost his life in using the means to recover his health.

An incident on the set of a 1958 edition of Armchair Theatre illustrates the perverse extremes of professionalism that television actors were expected to exhibit. The ... cast included ... a young Welsh actor named Gareth Jones. 'During transmission', recalls [Peter] Bowles, 'a little group of us was talking on camera while awaiting the arrival of Gareth Jones's character [...] We could see him coming up towards us, and he was going to arrive on cue, but we saw him drop, we saw him fall. We had no idea what had happened, but he certainly wasn't coming our way. The actors, including me, started making up lines: "I'm sure if So‑and‑so were here he would say..."' Jones had suffered a fatal heart attack—but rather than informing the actors of their colleague's death and ceasing transmission of the play, the producers decided to let them stumble on to the end.

On Saturday morning, the married father of two set out in a kayak across a pond at a residential complex in Des Plaines, just outside Chicago, where he was tending the birds. One of the swans charged his boat, capsizing it, says Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, whose deputies investigated the death. Mr Hensley tried to swim to shore but eyewitnesses told the sheriff's investigators the swan appeared to have actively blocked him. In April 2010, a swan on the River Cam in England made the news after repeatedly attacking rowers. It was nicknamed Mr Asbo, named after the Anti-Social Behaviour Orders issued by UK courts at the time. Two years later, there are still calls for it to be removed from the river, as the seasonal attacks go on. But such incidents are very rare, says John Huston of the Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, where there are 1,000 swans but no recorded attacks on humans in the colony's 600-year history.

The bird continued to lunge at him aggressively as he struggled to make it to shore before disappearing under the water, authorities said... Though swans may seem serene and are pretty to look at, most people don't realize how strong and aggressive they can be, said Doug Stotz, a senior conservation ecologist with the Field Museum. He said he has heard tales of people being attacked or injured from swans but has never heard of someone dying after a bad encounter.

Randy Llanes, who on Friday was impaled by a swordfish that he had speared, more is revealed about the man, the incident, and the type of fish that killed him... The extraordinary incident occurred inside Honokohau Small Boat Harbor. A swordfish measuring between 4 and 6 feet, with a 3-foot bill, had been spotted deep inside the harbor–a rare occasion because swordfish typically roam deep, pelagic waters... This type of incident, as far as we know, is unprecedented.

Llanes jumped into the water with a spear gun on Friday, May 29, after the swordfish was spotted in Honokohau Harbor... While there have been incidents between humans and swordfish in the past, Dr. Rossiter says an incident like this one is rare. "This is very, very unusual," he said. "There have been a couple of cases documented in the past, but almost always it can be attributed to an unfortunate accident or the fish being injured."
