아구티과
아구티과(Dasyproctidae)는 남아메리카에 서식하는 대형 설치류과의 하나로 아구티류와 아쿠치류를 포함하고 있다.[1] 몸 윗쪽의 털은 붉거나 어두운 색을 띠는 반면에 아래쪽은 좀 연한 색을 띤다. 초식동물로 나무에서 떨어진 익은 과일을 자주 먹는다. 굴을 파는 습성이 있으며, 다람쥐처럼 나중을 위해 먹이를 땅에 묻어 놓기도 한다.[2]

일부 학자들은 파카속(Cuniculus)을 아구티과로 분류하기도 하지만,[3][4] 분자생물학적 연구에 의하면 파카속은 아구티과와 단계통군을 형성하지 않는다.[5]
