작은아시아몽구스
작은아시아몽구스(Herpestes javanicus)는 아시아 남부와 동남아시아의 야생에서 발견되는 몽구스의 일종이다. 하와이와 바하마, 쿠바, 크로아티아, 자메이카, 히스파니올라섬, 푸에르토리코, 소앤틸리스 제도, 벨리즈, 온두라스, 파나마, 트리니다드 토바고, 콜롬비아, 수리남, 베네수엘라, 가이아나 그리고 마피아섬에 도입되기도 했다.[2] 서부 아종 그룹은 별도의 종, 인도몽구스 또는 작은인도몽구스(Herpestes palustris 또는 Herpestes auropunctatus)로 취급하기도 한다.

특징 편집
작은아시아몽구스는 인도회색몽구스(Herpestes edwardsi)와 토착 분포 지역의 상당수가 겹치는 동지역성 종분화 관계에 있으며, 인도회색몽구스와는 작은 크기로 쉽게 구별할 수 있다. 몸은 날씬하고 머리는 가늘고 길며 뾰족한 주둥이를 갖고 있다. 몸길이는 509~671cm 정도이다. 귀는 짧다. 각 5개의 발가락과 긴 발톱을 갖고 있다. 암수 성차가 있어서, 수컷이 암컷보다 머리가 더 넓고 크다.[3] 약 12 종류의 각각 다른 소리를 내는 것으로 알려져 있다.[4]
