가브리엘 빌

가브리엘 비엘(Gabriel Biel, 1420경~1495년 12월 7일), 독일의 스콜라 철학자이다.

하이델베르크 대학교에서 수학하였으며, 쾰른 대학교에서 토마스 아퀴나스와 에르푸르트 대학교에서 오컴의 윌리엄을 공부하였으며 스콜라주의 전통과 유명론을 따랐다. 하이코 오버만에 따르면 현대적 방법(via moderna)과 고전적 방법(via antiqua)을 분별있게 사용하였다(Oberman, 11). 공동생활 형제단에 반대적인 견해를 가진 성직자 모임인 윈더샤임 수도회의 수도사였다(Canons Regular of the Congregation of Windesheim).

빌의 작품으로 가장 중요한 저작은 '피터 롬바르드의 명제집에 대한 주석'이며, 마르틴 루터의 종교개혁에도 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 여기서 그는 오캄의 윌리엄을 스승으로 부르지만 스코투스주의자로서의 면모도 함께 보여준다. 그는 비록 유명론자임에도 불구하고 동시에 온건한 실재론자였으며, 스콜라철학자였으나, 공허한 사변을 펼치거나 교묘하게 지적인 재간을 부리려 하기 보다는 실제적이고 필요한 주제를 다루었다. 그는 당시 사회적인 움직임에 관심을 두었으며 인문주의자들과 우호적인 관계를 유지하였다. 그의 신학 저작들은 트렌트 공의회 시에 토론에 반복적으로 인용되었다.
