가시꼬리뱀과(Uropeltidae)는 뱀목에 속하는 파충류 뱀 과이다.^[2] 굴을 파는 습성을 지닌 원시적 형태의 뱀으로 인도 남부와 스리랑카에 분포한다. 학명은 그리스어 ura (꼬리, "tail")와 pelte (보호막, "shield")의 합성어에서 유래했으며, 이는 꼬리 끝단이 대형 케라틴 성질의 보호막으로 덮혀 있음을 가리킨다. 현재, 8속 47종이 알려져 있다.^[2] 독을 갖지 않는다.^[3]
