제임스 K. A. 스미스

제임스 K. A. 스미스(James K. A. Smith, 1970년 - )는 캐나다 태생의 미국의 철학자이며 현재 미국 캘빈 칼리지에서 개혁신학과 세계관을 강의하고 있다. 그는 급진 정통주의 그리고 포스트모던 기독교안에서 신학적 철학적 운동과 관련하여 유명한 인물이다.[4] 그의 작품은 철학, 신학, 윤리, 미학, 과학 및 정치 사이의 경계지대에서 수행되고 있다. 대륙 철학으로부터 도움을 받고 어거스틴, 장 칼뱅부터 조나단 에드워즈 그리고 아브라함 카이퍼까지로 이어지는 어거스틴의 신학적 문화적 전통속에서 그의 관심은 교회의 실천과 교회가 문화에 대한 증인이 되는 것이었다. 이것이 그가 말하는 소위 문화적 예전을 해석하고 이해할 필요을 보여주는 것이었다.[5]

생애와 교육 편집

스미스는 1970년 온타니오 엠브로에서 태어났다.[6] 그는 워털루 대학교 (University of Waterloo)와 임마누스 성경 대학교 (Emmaus Bible College)에서 학부 과정을 마쳤다. 그는 1995년 기독교 학문 연구소에서 제임스 올투이스 (James Olthuis) 교수로부터 철학석사를 얻었다.[7] 그는 1999년 빌라 노바 대학[6]에서 철학 박사 학위를 받았다.[6] 그는 유명한 해체주의자 존 D. 카푸토에 의해 조언을 받았다.[7]로욜라 메리마운트 대학교에서 짧은 시간 동안 수업을 마친 스미스는 캘빈 칼리지에서 현재의 직책을 맡았다.
