가웨인은 보통 무섭지만 정중하며 또한 다정한 기사로 왕(아서)과 그의 가족에게 항상 충성을 다했다. 그는 또한 어린이들의 기사였고 가난한 사람들의 수호자였으며 여성들의 수호자로서 “여성들의 기사”라고도 불리었다. 몇몇 연구에 의하면 그의 힘은 태양이 있을 때 강력해진다고 한다. 즉, 정오에 그의 힘은 3배가 되나, 태양이 질수록 희미해진다, 가웨인은 이탈리아에 존재하는 1184년에 건축된 [[모데나]] 성당의 북문 건축물에 등장할 뿐만 아니라 영국, 프랑스 그리고 셀틱 문화에서도 등장한다.
