1967년까지 뉴질랜드 파운드가 쿡 제도에서 스였다가 이후 뉴질랜드 달러가 도입되었다. 1972년에는 주화가 쿡 제도 전용으로 생겨났고 1987년에서야 독자적인 지폐도 도입되었다. 쿡 제도 달러는 뉴질랜드 달러와 호환한다.
Until 1967, the [[New Zealand pound]] was used on the Cook Islands, when it was replaced by the [[New Zealand dollar]]. In 1972, coins were issued specifically for the Cook Islands, with banknotes appearing in 1987. The Cook Islands dollar is pegged at par to the New Zealand dollar.
==동전==
1972년 청동 1, 2센트와 백동 5, 10, 20, 50센트와 1달러 동전이 생겼으며 모든 주화는 같은 크기이며 뉴질랜드 주화도 구성분이 거의 같다고 볼 수 있다. 1983년 1, 2센트 주화 생산은 중단되었다. 1987년 가리비 모양의 1달러와 삼각형의 2달러, 12각형의 5달러 동전이 생겼으며 1, 2달러 동전은 백동, 5달러는 알루미늄-청동으로 만든다. 뉴질랜드 10, 20, 50센트의 크기가 줄어듦에 따라 쿡 제도 주화도 이 경향을 따르고 있다.
In 1972, bronze 1 and 2 cents, and cupro-nickel 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, and 1 dollar coins were introduced. All were the same size and composition as the corresponding New Zealand coins. In 1983, production of the 1 and 2 cent coins ceased. In 1987, scallop shaped 1 dollar, triangular 2 dollars and [[dodecagon]]al 5 dollars were introduced, with the 1 and 2 dollars in cupro-nickel and the 5 dollars in aluminium bronze. With the reduction in size of the New Zealand 10, 20 and 50 cent piece, the Cook Island equivalents have yet to appear.
==지폐==

In 1987, 3, 10 and 20 dollar notes were introduced by the government, followed by 50 dollars as part of a new series of notes in 1992. These notes were issued until 1995. Cook Islanders are showing a preference for New Zealand banknotes, although the Cook Islands notes remain legal tender.
