서쪽으로는 [[사우디아라비아]], 남쪽으로는 [[카타르]]와 접한다. 특히 사우디아라비아와는 차량으로 30분 밖에 소요되지 않는다. 섬나라이며, 고온 다습한 기후여서 여름에는 45도에서 47도까지 오른다. 그러나 겨울(11월 말 ~ 1월 말)에는 일교차가 25도 이상 날 정도로 기후 변화가 심하며, 전체 강우량의 90% 이상이 이 시기에 내린다.
