The '''Purus''' is a [[tributary지류]] of the [[Amazon아마존 River강]] in [[South America남아메리카]]. Its [[drainage basin유역]] is 63,166 km2 (24,389 sq mi), and the mean [[discharge (hydrology)|discharge유량]] is 8,400 m³/s.
It enters the [[Amazon아마존 River강]] west of the [[Madeira마데이라 River강]], which it parallels as far south as the falls of the latter stream. It runs through a continuous forest at the bottom of the great depression lying between the [[Madeira마데이라 River강]], which skirts the edge of the [[Brazil브라질]]ian [[sandstone사암]] plateau, and the [[Ucayali우카얄리 강]] which hugs the base of the [[Andes안데스 산맥]]. The river forms a small part of the international boundary between [[Brazil브라질]] and [[Peru페루]].
