English: While the Virupaksha Temple is renowned for its sacredness, the Vittala Temple is an architectural masterpiece. This temple, which was dedicated to Lord Vishnu, was built in the 15th century by the Vijayanagara Kings, each of whom added to its structure. The center of attraction is the exquisitely carved monolith stone chariot of Garuda. Among the notable features of the temple are the musical pillars and carvings that depict life during that period, including images of Portuguese trading horses.
Just outside the temple are the ruins of a large marketplace, where horses were traded by merchants from across the world, including Portugal and Arabia.
