킹 제임스 성경

킹 제임스 성경(영어: The King James Version, 약칭 KJV 또는 영어: The King James Bible, 약칭 KJB)은 잉글랜드와 스코틀랜드 그리고 아일랜드 왕국의 국왕 제임스 1세의 명으로 1604년에 번역을 시작하여 1611년에 끝마친 기독교 성경의 영어 번역본이다. 순교자 윌리엄 틴들이 번역했던 성경의 70%가 킹 제임스 성경에 사용되었다. 권위역 성경이라고도 번역되었는데, 영국 정부의 공인이 아닌 학자들의 권위로 혼동할 수 있다.

구약과 신약을 포함하는 본 성경전서는 제임스 폐하의 특별 명령에 따라 원어에서 번역하였으며 또한 이전 역본들을 부지런히 비교하고 수정하여 번역하였음. 교회에서 낭독하도록 지정 받음.

저작권

오래 전에 나온 출판물로 세계 대부분의 지역에서 저작권 적용 없이 자유롭게 출판 가능하다. 그러나 영국에서는 영국 왕의 명령으로 번역된 문건이므로 정부의 허가를 받아야 한다.
