카피바라아과(Hydrochoerinae)는 천축서과에 속하는 설치류 아과 분류군이다. 바위천축서속(Kerodon)과 카피바라속(Hydrochoerus)의 현존하는 2개 속으로 이루어져 있다. 또한 여러 멸종 속을 포함하고 있다. 2005년 이전까지 카피바라아과 분류는 논란이 있었고, 현존하는 카피바라 종과 멸종된 근연종들을 별도의 독립적인 카피바라과(Hydrochoeridae)로 분류하기도 했다.^[1] 최근의 분자계통분류학 연구 결과는 바위천축서속과 카피바라속이 밀접한 관계를 가지며,^[2] 2개 속이 천축서과에 속하는 아과로 분류하는 것을 지지하고 있다.^[3]
