데이비드 매클렐런드

데이비드 클래런스 매클렐런드(영어: David Clarence McClelland, 1917년 5월 20일 ~ 1998년 4월 27일)는 욕구이론으로 유명한 미국의 심리학자이다. 1950년대부터 1990년대에 많은 작품을 발표하였으며, 주제 통각 테스트(Thematic Apperception Test (TAT))라는 새로운 채점기준을 만들었다. 성취욕구(need achievement) 혹은 N-성취이론(n-achievement theory)이라고 불리는 성취 동기 이론(Achievement Motivation Theory)으로 유명하다.

뉴욕에서 태어난 매클렐런드는 1938년 웨슬리언 대학교에서 예술학 학위를, 1939년 미주리 대학교에서 문학석사를, 예일 대학교에서 실험심리학 박사학위를 받았다. 코네티컷 대학교와 웨슬리언에서 교수로 일하다 1956년 사회관계학과 심리학 의장으로서 하버드 대학교에 들어갔다. 1987년에 보스턴 대학교에 들어갔고 그곳에서의 공헌으로 미국 심리학 협회상을 받았다.
