시다 스코치폴

테다 스코치폴(Theda Skocpol, 1947년 5월 4일 ~)은 하버드 대학교의 사회학자이자 정치학자이다. 그녀는 2005년부터 2007년까지 하버드 문리대학원의 학장으로 일하였다.

2007년에 스코치폴은 세계에서 가장 영예로운 정치 과학상 가운데 하나인 요한 쉬테 정치학상(Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science)을 받았다.

생애

그녀는 1969년에 미시간 주립 대학교에서 예술 학사 학위를 받았다. 그녀는 1976년에 하버드로 가서 베링턴 무어와 공부하기 시작하였다. 1979년에 그녀는 러시아, 프랑스, 중국의 사회 혁명을 비교한 《국가와 사회혁명》(States and Social Revolutions)을 출판하였다.

1980년대 초에 그녀는 그녀가 여자라는 까닭에 하버드 대학교가 재직을 거절하였다고 공개적으로 주장하였다. 이는 그녀가 시카고 대학교에서 교육하던 1981년에 내부 검토 위원회의 증명을 통하여 밝혀졌다. 하버드는 그녀에게 재직 기회를 주었고 그녀는 이를 받아들였다.

최근에는 미국 복지국가의 사회 분석 Protecting Soldiers and Mothers를 비롯하여 그녀의 작품은 미국에서 주목을 받기 시작하였다.
