[[버클리 음악대학교]]를 졸업했으며 19세에 [[칙 코리아]]의 밴드 [[리턴 투 포에버]]의 기타리스트로 활동을 시작하였다. 알 디 미올라가 기타리스트로 참여한 [[리턴 투 포에버]]의 No Mystery 앨범은 1975년도에 [[그래미상]]을 수상했다.[https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/al-dimeola/16613] 80년대와 90년대에 기타리스트 [[존 맥러플린]], [[파코 데 루시아]]와 함께 앨범 제작과 공연을 하였다. 현재 솔로 아티스트로 활동중이다. 2018년도에 [[버클리 음악대학교]]에서 명예 박사 학위를 수여 받았다.
