[[18세기]] [[프랑스]]에서 들여온 아프리카 노예들이 이 섬을 개발했으며 [[1809년]] [[영국]]의 식민지가 되었다. [[1968년]] [[모리셔스]]가 [[영국]]으로부터 독립하면서 로드리게스 섬도 [[모리셔스]]의 영토가 되었다. 로드리게스 섬의 주민 대부분은 주로 [[영어]]와 [[프랑스어]], [[로드리게스 크리올]]을 구사하며 [[수공업]]과 [[농업]], [[어업]], [[관광업]]에 종사한다.
