곰들쭉속

곰들쭉속(---屬, 학명: Arctostaphylos 아르크토스타필로스^[*])은 진달래과의 속이다. 곰들쭉속의 학명인 '아르크토스타필로스'는 고대그리스어로 '곰'을 뜻하는 '아르크토스(ἄρκτος)'와 '포도'를 뜻하는 '스타퓔레(σταφυλή)'의 합성어이다. 붉은곰들쭉의 별칭에서 따와 홍월귤속이라고도 일컫는다.

곰들쭉속에 속하는 식물 종 중 낮게 깔려 자라는 관목 수종들을 학명에서 그대로 따와 '곰 베리'라는 뜻의 베어베리(bearberry)로 불린다. 이와 반대로 '작은 사과'라는 뜻의 스페인어 이름인 만사니타(manzanita)로 불리는 수종들이 있는데, 이들은 대부분이 소형 나무 크기에서 어느 정도 크게 자라는 관목류 형태를 보인다.
