아울 시티

아울 시티(Owl City)는 미네소타주 오와토나에서 만들어진 2007년에 만들어진 미국의 일렉트로니카 음악 프로젝트이다. 싱어 송 라이터 Adam Randal Young (애덤 영)의 여러 프로젝트 중 하나이기도 하다. 프로젝트 이름은 Adam의 고향인 미네소타주 오와토나에서 따온 것이라는 설과, "Fireflies"의 가사에도 언급된 Adam의 불면증과 연관되어 지어진 이름이라는 설이 있었으나, Adam이 여러 인터뷰를 통해 "Owl"과 "City" 두 단어를 결합하였을 때 떠오르는 상상의 공간을 통하여 천상의(ethereal, atmospheric) 느낌을 전달할 수 있다고 생각하여 지은 이름이라고 밝혔다.

Adam은 2007년 데뷔 전까지 코카콜라 트럭에 짐을 실어 나르던 운전 기사였다. 불면증이 있어 잠이 오지 않았던 그는 부모님의 집 지하실에서 음악을 작곡했고, 틈틈이 만든 음악을 마이스페이스에 올렸다. 그리고 이 음악이 널리 퍼지게 되어 유니버설 리퍼블릭 레코드사와 계약을 체결하게 되고, 정식으로 아울시티 (Owl City) 라는 이름으로 데뷔를 하게 된다.

2009년에는 앨범 [Ocean Eyes]를 발표 한 후 그 수록곡중 "Fireflies"가 빌보드 핫 100 1위에 오르기도 했다 (참고: 2009년 빌보드 핫 100 차트 1위 목록).
