알렉산더 보빈

러시아계 미국인 언어학자 (1961–2022)

알렉산더 보빈(영어: Alexander Vovin, 1961년 1월 27일~2022년 4월 8일)은 러시아 태생의 미국의 언어학자, 문헌학자이다. 1995년 하와이 대학 마노아 캠퍼스 동아시아학과의 교수로 취임하여 2014년까지 재직하다가, 프랑스 사회과학고등연구원(EHESS)의 연구원이 되었다.

1983년 상트페테르부르크 대학에서 구조 언어학과 응용 언어학 석사 학위를 받았으며, 1987년 동대학에서 논문 '하마마츠 추나곤 모노가타리(浜松中納言物語)'로 일본어 역사 언어학과 일본 고대 문학 박사 학위를 취득했다. 그 후 상트페테르부르크의 동양학 연구소(1987년~1990년)에서 연구원으로 재직하였고, 미시건 대학교(1990년~1994년)에서 조교수로 재직하였으며, 1994년에서 1995년까지는 마이애미 대학교에, 1995년에서 2003년까지 하와이 주립대학교에서 조교수와 부교수를 거쳐 정교수 자리에 올랐다. 또한 교토의 국제 일본학 센터(2001~2002년, 2008년)의 교환 교수직을 거쳐 독일 보훔 대학교 (2008년~2009년)의 교환교수로 재직하였다.

알렉산더 보빈은 일본 역사 언어학 (어원학, 형태론 그리고 음성학) 연구, 나라 시대(710년~792년)와 헤이안 시대(792년~1192년)의 문헌학의 권위자이다. 현재 일본 시가 중 가장 오래된 만요슈(万葉集) 전 권의 영어 번역과 원문 평론 프로젝트를 진행 중이며. 또한 서구 학자들 중 아이누어의 연구를 선도하고 있으며, 중앙아시아 언어와 반도 일본어·고대 한국어·중세 한국어의 연구로도 알려져 있다.
