《Appetite for Destruction》은 미국의 하드 록 밴드 건즈 앤 로지스의 데뷔 스튜디오 음반이다. 그것은 1987년 7월 21일 게펀 레코드에 의해 발매되었다.

그 음반은 1987년에 거의 주목을 받지 못했다. 이 밴드가 〈Welcome to the Jungle〉, 〈Paradise City〉 그리고 〈Sweet Child o' Mine〉와 함께 순회 공연을 하고 난 후, 이것은 엄청난 상업적 성공이 되었다. 이 음반은 빌보드 200에서 1위를 차지했고 미국에서 11번째로 가장 많이 팔린 음반이 되었다. 전 세계적으로 3천만 부 이상이 팔린 이 음반은 역사상 가장 많이 팔린 음반 중 하나이다.

비록 비평가들은 원래 이 음반에 대해 양면적이었지만, 《Appetite for Destruction》은 그 이후 소급적인 찬사를 받았고 역사상 가장 위대한 음반 중 하나로 여겨졌다. 2018년에도 비슷한 환호를 받으며 리패션된 박스 형태로 재개관했다.

배경 편집

건즈 앤 로지스의 첫 녹음은 결성 직후인 1985년 3월 계획된 EP를 위한 것으로, 〈Don't Cry〉는 〈Heartbreak Hotel〉, 〈Think About You〉, 〈Anything Goes〉의 커버곡이다.[11] 그러나 오리지널 기타리스트 트레이시 건즈가 밴드를 떠나면서 슬래시로 대체되면서 발매 계획은 무산되었다.[12] 얼마 지나지 않아 액슬 로즈, 더프 맥케이건, 슬래시, 스티븐 애들러, 이지 스트래들린의 클래식 라인업이 완성되었다.[13]

로스앤젤레스의 클럽 무대에서 많은 투어를 한 후, 그 그룹은 1986년 3월에 게펀 레코드와 계약을 맺었다.[14] 그 해 12월, 그룹은 스튜디오에서 일하기 위해 클럽 씬에서 탈퇴하는 동안 밴드에 대한 관심을 지속시키기 위해 고안된 4곡의 EP 《Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide》를 발매했다.[15][16] 이 EP 음반은 음반사가 음반을 녹음하기에 충분한 노래가 없다고 느낀 것을 달래기 위해 고안되었다.[17]
