시인 코너

웨스트민스터 사원의 남측 수랑

시인 코너 (Poets’ Corner)는 수많은 시인, 극작가와 작가들이 묻히거나 기념된 장소라는 이유로 붙여진, 전통적으로 웨스트민스터 사원의 남측 수랑(transept)부분을 뜻하는 이름이다.

시인 코너에 매장된 첫 시인은 바로 제프리 초서이다.[1] 영국 문화 발전에 기여한 이들을 이곳에 매장하거나 기념하는 전통이 세기를 거듭하여 이어져왔다. 거의 대부분의 경우 이곳에 묻힌 작가에게는 영광이 주어진다.

2009년 왕립 발레단의 설립자의 석판 바닥에 기념되었다. 2010년 9월 25일 작가 엘리자베스 가스켈은 기념 창 구획에 헌사되어 기념되었다.[2] 2011년 12월 6일 전 영국의 계관시인이었던 테드 휴즈가 석판 바닥에 기념되었다.[3] 2013년 11월 22일 작가 C. S. 루이스의 작고 50주년을 기념하여 그는 석판 바닥에 기념되었다.[4] 시인 필립 라킨은 2016년 12월 2일 석판 바닥에 기념되었다.[5][6][7]

  앨프리드 테니슨 1809 1892 83 Large public funeral, 12 October 1892.[13] In 1893 the government formally requested there be a bust of Tennyson in 시인s' Corner. The businessman-botanist Charles Jenner offered Thomas Woolner's 1857 bust of Tennyson to the Abbey, and it was placed near Tennyson's gravestone, by moving a tablet to Christopher Anstey.
