라쿤속
(아메리카너구리속에서 넘어옴)
라쿤속(Procyon)은 3종의 라쿤으로 이루어진 라쿤과에 속하는 야행성 포유류 분류군이다. 가장 많이 알려져 있는 종 라쿤은 "아메리카너구리"라고도 불리며, 나머지 2종의 라쿤은 열대 기후 지역에 서식하며 덜 알려져 있다. 유전학 연구에 의하면, 라쿤은 카코미슬고양이속의 알락꼬리고양이, 카코미슬고양이와 가장 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있으며,[1][2][3] 약 1천만년 전에 나뉘었다.[3]
