자크 아다마르

프랑스의 수학자

자크 살로몽 아다마르(프랑스어: Jacques Salomon Hadamard, 프랑스어 발음: ​[ʒɑk salɔmɔ̃ adamaʁ], 1865년 12월 8일 ~ 1963년 10월 17일)는 소수 정리의 증명을 통해 잘 알려진 프랑스의 수학자이다.[1][2][3]

생애 편집

1865년 12월 8일에 프랑스 베르사유의 유대인 가정에서 태어났다. 아버지 아메데 아다마르(프랑스어: Amédée Hadamard)는 교사였으며, 어머니는 클레르 마리 잔 피카르(프랑스어: Claire Marie Jeanne Picard)였다. 1884년에 에콜 노르말 쉬페리외르에 입학하였으며, 1892년에 박사 학위를 수여받았다. 같은 해에 루이즈아나 트레넬(프랑스어: Louise-Anna Trénel)과 결혼하여 3남2녀를 두었다.

1893년에 보르도 대학교 강사가 되었다. 1894년에 반유대주의 드레퓌스 사건이 발생하였다. 아다마르는 유대인이었으며, 아다마르의 6촌 친척 루시 드레퓌스(프랑스어: Lucie Dreyfus)가 드레퓌스 사건의 당사자 알프레드 드레퓌스의 아내였다. 이 때문에, 아다마르는 무신론자였지만 시온주의 등에 관심을 갖게 되었다.

1896년에 소수 정리를 증명하였다. (거의 동시에 샤를장 드 라 발레푸생이 같은 정리를 독자적으로 증명하였다.) 같은 해에 보르도 대학교 교수로 승진하였다. 1897년에 파리로 이사하여, 1909년에 콜레주 드 프랑스의 교수가 되었다. 1912년에 에콜 폴리테크니크의 교수가 되었다. 1916년에 프랑스 과학 아카데미 회원이 되었다.

제2차 세계 대전 도중 나치 독일이 프랑스를 침공하자, 유대인이었던 아다마르는 프랑스 남부로 피난하였다. 비시 프랑스 정부는 아다마르가 미국으로 망명하는 것을 허용하였으며 아다마르는 1941년~1944년까지 미국 컬럼비아 대학교에 있었다. 1944년에 런던으로 이사하였으며, 1945년에 종전 뒤 고국으로 귀환하였다.

1963년 10월 17일에 파리에서 향년 97세의 나이로 사망하였다.
